Huawei ETS6630 3G Desk Phone

The Huawei ETS6630 is a popular 3G Desk Phone but what has made the GSM Desk Phone so popular?

Huawei ETS6630

Many users of GSM Desk Phones and 3G Desk Phones are using mobile phone based telephone systems such as the Vodafone One Net which enables mobile phone users to be an extension on a virtual PBX.  What better way to be an office based worker using the Vodafone One Net GSM service than by using a mobile phone disguised as a desktop phone.

The Huawei ETS6630 is a great example of this type of 3G desktop telephone becuase it inlcudes programmable feature keys that can be used to provide one touch access to the network features or can be programmed as speed dial keys for your most popular numbers.

You would be surprised at the variety of GSM Desk Phones and 3G Desk Phones available and they are selling in the thousands.  A quick look on Google will bring up results for many companies offering GSM Desk Phones for a variety of applications.  Apart from the moble phone PBX application for these types of GSM Telephones, they are also used to provide a wireless Taxi Phone solution so Taxi firms can position a telephone in a convenient location such as a supermarket, hospital, pub, hotel, college or train station, in fact anywhere where a potential customer want want to call for a private hire taxi.  The Taxi companies utilise built-in features of the GSM Desk Phone such as Hot Dial (also called baby call) that automatically dials the preset taxi office number when the handset is lifted.  The DPH500 is a very popular Taxi Phone with over 1000 telephones already in use with more being installed every day.

Expect to see the Huawei ETS6630 3G Desk Phone and other GSM and 3G Desk Phones in the course of your business becasue they are becomming very popular in our increasingly mobile workplace.

GSM Desk Phone Sales Soar

Sales of GSM Desk Phones in the UK have risen dramitically over the last 12 months.  A GSM Desk Phone is a mobile phone in the form of a traditional desk phone.  This means you can have a mains powered phone on your desk with a SIM card inside and when you make calls the call goes over the mobile phone network.  This makes them ideal for temporary offices or sales offices where alot of calls are made to mobile phones and users want to save money on lanline to mobile calls by using the competitive cross network mobile phone tariffs offered by the mobile phone companies.

However, this basic use of GSM Desk Phones is not what has driven the demand for these devices.  The most common application for GSM Desk Phones is their use as a Taxi Phone.

Taxi companies can install a GSM Desk Phone as a Taxi Phone in a multitude of locations including pubs, clubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, supermarkets, train stations, bus stations, colleges and universities.  In fact a GSM Taxi Phone can be installed anywhere there is a mains power supply, providing customers a convenient way of booking a taxi.

Some GSM Desk Phones have been tweaked to meet this growing demand for Taxi Phones and include features like Hot Dial that allows the taxi company to configure the phone to dial the Taxi Operator’s telephone number simply by lifting the handset.  A great example of this is the DPH500 Taxi Phone that includes the easy to use Hotdial feature, and also prevents other calls or SMS messages being used on the phone when it is in Hot Dial mode.

Taxi Phone – GSM Taxi Phone

Many Taxi companies and businesses that need customers to contact them from public locations such as retaurants, bars, pubs, clubs, railway stations, bus stations, airports, hospitals and hotels are taking advantage of GSM technology in the form of the GSM Taxi Phone.

This type of Taxi Phone uses a standard mobile phone SIM card to provide an easy way for customers to contact the taxi company and make a booking request.  Many GSM Desk Phone manufacturers have adapted their standard office GSM Desk Phones and made them wall mountable and included features like Hot Dial (a revised version of baby call) so that the user simply has to lift the handset and the taxi phone automatically dials the required number.  These developments, together with the low cost of these Taxi Phones (approx £60.00) and the low cost of GSM mobile phone SIM cards make this an ideal solution to replace expensive landline taxi phone solutions.

GSM Doorbell

A new GSM Doorbell will call your mobile phone when the visitor presses the doorbell. The GSM Doorbell will also establish a video call so you can see who is calling.

The GSM Doorbell is just like a door phone but enables you to answer callers to your door from the convenience of your mobile phone or smart phone.

The GSM Doorbell uses a SIM card to provide low cost GSM connectivity and convenience for this low cost GSM doorphone solution.

GTECH 104 GSM Desk Phone

The GTECH104 is a multi-functional business telephone that uses a SIM card to make and receive calls instead of plugging into a traditional telephone line.  The GTECH 104 is essentially a mobile phone in the guise of a deskphone.

GTECH 104 GSM Desk Phone

There are many GSM Desk Phones available in the UK and many are used for telesales, temporary office, security and Taxi Phones, but the GTECH 104 provides additional features that make it ideal for use as a single communications device for a small office or temporary or remote office such as a construction site office.  The GTECH104 can connect to additional extension phones using the built-in DECT wireless capabilities and also acts as a WiFi hotspot to enable PC and laptop users to connect to share 3G mobile broadband connectivity.

The GTECH 104 is priced at around £250.00 for the base unit so is more expensive than standard GSM Desk Phones such as the DPH500 but is an all rounder and is sure to find a loyal following in the UK.

Using GSM Gateways on Vodafone

We were recently asked about the Vodafone policy about using Vodafone SIM cards with GSM gateways.  In the Vodafone contract and on their website they state :-

“GSM Gateway Commercial Policy

A GSM Gateway is any equipment containing a SIM card which enables the routing of calls from fixed apparatus to mobile equipment by establishing a mobile to mobile call.

In view of the uncertainty over the legality of certain types of GSM Gateways, Vodafone’s policy is not to accept applications for the operation of GSM Gateways on its network. Customers should be aware that where a GSM Gateway is connected to the Vodafone network in breach of this policy, Vodafone has and will continue to disconnect SIM cards that it believes are being used illegally.”

The above can be found at

This would suggest that Vodafone, apart from not being able to interpret some pretty basic legal ruling from Ofcom, will not under any circumstances accept or tolerate a Vodafone SIM card to be used in a device that will allow a fixed telephone device, such as a telephone to be used on their network.

If this is truly the case then why do they continue to offer the Vodafone B970 3G Router that contains a telephone port that you can connect a telephone and make voice calls – this is in fact acting as a GSM Gateway so any Vodafone SIM card used in this unit that has been used for a voice call should be terminated.

Why are they also offering GSM Fax numbers becuase how else will a SIM card be able to receive faxes without the use of a GSM Fax Terminal that you can connect a fax machine to.  The same sort of single SIM GSM Gateway terminal used by thousands of companies with temporary or remote sites that rely on mobile phone communications.

I hope that Vodafone is able to provide some clarity as to their business policy as it does not make sense to us and many of their customers.
