postheadericon Is your business prepared for the cold weather?

The annual freeze is upon the UK with forecasts of snow and freezing temperatures and of course the possible disruption to business inlcuding staff shortages as employees refuse to struggle through dangerous conditions to get to work.  In this age of high speed internet and multitude of communications options it should be easy for desk based employees to work from home and it is not as expensive as you might think as long as you have made some preperations.

The obvious first choice is using VoIP (Voice Over IP) so that home based employees, even temporarily snowed in ones, can communicate with the office and customers seamlessly.  As long as they have a reliable ADSL connection at home and a PC with suitable headset they can quickly establish a connection with the office phone system to remain a productive member of the team.  Even if your business does not have a VoIP or VoIP enabled telephone system you can plan ahead by installing a VoIP Gateway which will easily upgrade your existing phone system to provide basic VoIP connectivity as a backup for this type of situation.  The Telecom FM Onestream VoIP Gateway will connect to your small business phone system and provide VoIP connectivity for both the office phone system and also allow home workers to connect using an IP softphone on their computer or they could use an IP Phone at home and be able to answer incoming calls and transfer them back to the office.  The Onestream Gateway also fetures a built-in GSM Gateway so the company can reduce their call charges to mobile phones or provide easy, low cost mobile extension functionality for their mobile workforce.

The next thing that a home based employee will need to do is access their office PC and applications from their home computer and this is easily achieved using a basic VNC service or a paid for remote access solutions such as gotomypc or logmein which are easy to set up and allow the user to work as though sitting at their desk.

With a little planning, and maybe a small outlay for items like VoIP Gateways which can provide additional benefits such as reduced call charges throughout the year, most small businesses can easily survive the cold snap.

postheadericon CCTV in a High Speed Mobile World

What is the future for Close Circuit TV with Mobile Broadband speeds reaching Fixed Broadband speeds in the near future?

Video is such a major part of our lives that we tend to take it for granted when it is all around us from the TVs in our homes to Youtube on our PCs and Smart Phones. But the expansion in speed in the Mobile world, 3G, UMTS, HSPA and 4G services is starting to open up possibilities that have never before been practical or even feasible.

Security services for example – On every corner in most major European cities you will find CCTV cameras but it is not so practical to put these systems into certain areas that would seriously benefit from monitoring and surveillance. High risk or secluded areas such as bus stops, remote storage, public vehicles and rural locations where data network availability has been limited or not even present. Wide area Broadband services now open up the possibility of providing a host of security services to remote locations and to bring back live video capture. Often legacy systems require local storage and some form of manual intervention to recover recordings. If a theft or attack is recorded the owner or authorities need to play catch up after the event to piece together the evidence. Not withstanding that the mobile operators need to offer suitable data packages for these applications it is certainly an application waiting for the service and there is a plethora of High Speed 4G CPE waiting to connect these networks. Broadband is no longer the exclusive domain of the fixed operators! There a host of legacy systems awaiting retrofit and more new systems to install which, too date, have been impractical to deploy. 4G is going to be a major contributor to making these systems a success.

postheadericon Digital Signage in a High Speed Mobile World.

What possibilities do 4G mobile services create in the field of remote video advertising?

Flat screen Displays are becoming common place in many public places: Shopping centres, Train stations, bus shelters, football grounds and they are becoming ever more prevalent as large panel display technologies become cheaper and more reliable. The majority of remote sineage technology currently deployed relies primarily on local storage of media which plays a number of advertisements on a loop. New media is typically downloaded over night or out of hours via a remote modem typically low speed via a landline or mobile connection. Both of these options are limited technically and economically. But, imagine if all of these remote assets could be networked wherever they were by a high speed mobile connection wirelessly! The possibilities for maximizing the value of these assets starts to get very exciting! These assets rely on playing contracted advertisements in set locations based on the viewing potential and even though the advertisements are, as far as possible, targeted geographically and demographically, they are limited.

4G high Speed Wireless connections enables real time video content to be distributed in an almost ‘broadcast’ type approach to targeted locations based on event, time of day or to support local promotions such as special offers in the vicinity which shops and retailers can take advantage of. If you think you have seen everything when it comes to advertising think again! There will be an increase in targeted media to set locations which will open up many commercial opportunities for deployment of new media platforms powered by 4G connectivity.

postheadericon 1Gb Internet – UK vs USA

We recently did a quick check online about the availability of high speed 1Gb Internet services in the UK and found only a handful of suppliers who were all limited to providing 1Gb Ethernet Leased Lines for Internet access services in only a couple of locations with most of them limited to the London area.

In the USA there are about 40 suppliers of 1Gb Internet access including Google who are utilising their already large and growing dark fibre network to provide high speed Internet access .

The question to ask is what does the UK need to do to make this type of technology available to a wider geographic area to open up a more geographically diverse business culture with more investment in regional opportunities and employment outside of London. The answer is a massive overhaul in our out of date telecommunications infrastructure so that the whole of the UK can benefit from the broadband revolution in both business and home.

postheadericon Demand for 4G LTE Routers increases.

Business and consumer demand for high speed mobile broadband has spiked a demand for 4G Routers and LTE Routers in the UK.  Popular products such as the Option Globesurfer 3+ and the Zalip CDG561WE 4G Routers thats provide higher download speeds than traditional HSPA Routers have seen a dramatic increase in sales.  The Option Globesurfer III+ is a HSPA+ Router with a maximum download speed of 14.4Mbps and the Zalip CDG561WE is a 4G Router with maximum download speeds of up to 21Mbps.

Many users of these high speed mobile broadband routers aare using them on the new 3 mobile HSPA+ Network and in our own tests we got 11Mbps download speed which is pretty impressive.

With the new wave of wireless network technologies around the corner with the auction of the old analogue television spectrum later this year there are exciting times ahead in the UK for high speed mobile broadband access for both 4G mobile phone users as well as home and office mobile broadband solutions using the next generation of 4G Router, LTE Router, WiMAX Router and HSPA+ Routers.

postheadericon XLN Telecom Cold Calling

We received several calls today from what appeared to be an international call centre on behalf of XLN Telecom.  After searching on google for XLN Telecom Cold Calling we found many pages on forums and websites advising of the problems that customers have with XLN Telecom and their cold calling and sales tactics.

An example of what we found is shown on Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert website and the link is as follows :-

postheadericon Zalip HSPA+ Router Announced – Up to 21Mbps Wireless Broadband

The 3G Router Store announced today that it’s first shipment of the Zalip CDG561WE will arrive during August 2011.  The Zalip HSPA+ Router will compliment the growing range of LTE Router products being stocked by the UK’s leading supplier of 3G  and 4G routers.  Other HSPA+ routers currently in stock are the Vololink VA125 and the Vololink VA126.

LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the next generation of Mobile Broadband Internet services which will provide high speed mobile broadband with 3 Mobile already advising customers of a 40% increase in download speeds when uing LTE Modems with their 3G network.

Most of the UK is currently serviced by 3G HSPA networks with download speeds up to 7.2Mpbs which is suitable for most M2M and remote monitoring and management applications so there will still be a huge demand for 3G networks and 3G routers.  LTE Neworks offering very high speed internet services will initially be aimed at home and business users as a real alternative to traditional fixed line broadband services such as ADSL and SDSL.
