Ireland’s Communications Minister Richard Bruton has told Parliament that is looking into the feasibility of accelerating the National Broadband Plan (NBP) roll-out in light of the current pandemic, reports RTE.
Bruton said that the crisis had shown the benefits of broadband enabling people to use e-health services and work remotely, for example. He has asked officials to investigate whether the roll-out could be accelerated to bring high-speed broadband earlier to those areas currently scheduled to be connected in year 6-7 of the project. He told MPs that the aim was to try to accelerate roll-out from 2nd-half 2021.
