Virgin Media has announced it will close all 53 of its UK based stores on the high street.
The stores which are currently closed due to the UK wide lockdown, will not reopen and shall remain permanently closed.
Virgin Media closed the stores in March, but the decision to permanently shutter all branches has supposedly been taken due to decreasing footfall for the cable and TV company.
Supposedly the 341 staff who work in these stores have not been furloughed.
According to The Guardian, the company will instead offer employees first refusal at 300 new roles working at-home in customer care.
In addition, there will be another 50 newly created roles related to field sales roles.
“We are focused on delivering the service customers want, in the ways they want it and at a time and place that suits them,” said Rob Orr, an executive director for sales at Virgin Media.
“By creating new jobs in our most popular care and sales channels, we will be better able to provide our customers with the top service and support they rightly expect while retaining our talented workforce.”
